On June 12, 2026, the temporary exhibition Shtetl: Jewish Life in Pre-War Poland will open at the synagogue in Kraśnik, located at 5 Bożnicza Street.
The exhibition presents the organization and rich traditions of the Jewish communities that once lived in small Polish towns. It explores key places of religious and communal life, such as the synagogue and the cemetery, the rhythm of everyday life shaped by holidays and rituals, as well as the roles of women, the educational system, and the multilingual character of the community. The exhibition also highlights the history of the Jews of Kraśnik, who constituted nearly half of the town’s population before the Second World War.
The event is organized by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland, which owns, among other properties, the synagogue and Jewish cemetery in Kraśnik. The exhibition was prepared by the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
The exhibition will open on June 12, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. and will be available free of charge until 6:00 p.m. In the following weeks, it will be accessible to groups visiting the synagogue by prior arrangement (fodz@fodz.pl).
The exhibition is part of the Jewish Culture Festival in Kraśnik. At 11:00 a.m., at the Center for Culture and Promotion, 26 Kościuszki Street, Mariusz Bieniek will speak about the town’s Jewish community, and Iwona Syroka and her ensemble will perform klezmer music.
