We sadly report that Anti-Semitic slogans were painted on the fence of the Jewish cemetery in Sopot. Thanks to the quick reaction of the city authorities the graffiti were painted over. Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland reported this act of crime to the Police.

The act provoked also a spontaneous reaction from the citizens of Sopot, who brought to the cemetery candles, flowers and even a banner with a message 'We are sorry'.

The 100 years old cemetery was entered in the Monument Register in 1983 and was carefully renovated at the end of the 1980’s. The oldest matzeva dates back to 1920.
